Posted by:

Mosques have opened their doors to the public as part of a drive to “reach out to fellow Britons following tensions around terrorism”.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said mosques would offer refreshments and “insight” into how they run.

Leaders from other religions have also been invited, to “demonstrate unity”.

The MCB has raised concerns about anti-Muslim sentiment since 17 people were killed by Islamist militants in Paris last month.

Announcing Visit My Mosque Day, the MCB said: “Mosques will be ...

First Church of England female bishop to be named

Posted by:

The Church of England is expected to name its first female bishop later, just a month after the historic change to canon law.

It is understood a female priest will become the new Bishop of Stockport, a post that has been vacant since May.

The general synod voted to back plans for female bishops in July and formally adopted legislation on 17 November.

The appointment will end centuries of male leadership of the Church and comes 20 years after women became ...

What heaven’s really like – by a leading brain surgeon

Posted by:

When I was a small boy, I was adopted. I grew up remembering nothing of my birth family and unaware that I had a biological sister, named Betsy. Many years later, I went in search of my biological family, but for Betsy it was too late: she had died. Before I start, I should explain that I am a scientist, who has spent a lifetime studying the workings of the brain.

The little boy who says he went to Heaven

Four months after  Colton Burpo miraculously survived a life-threatening burst appendix, his  parents began to suspect that something rather extraordinary had happened to  him.

There were signs  of change in their son not long after the operation, but it took a while for  them to understand the ‘truth’.

The first unusual  occurrence was when Todd and Sonja returned from the hospital to their home in  Nebraska in March 2003 to find a pile of bills.

They baulked at  the £14,000 bill from the ...

Quantum physics proves that there IS an afterlife

Posted by:

Most scientists would probably say that the concept of an afterlife is either nonsense, or at the very least unprovable.

Yet one expert claims he has evidence to confirm an existence beyond the grave – and it lies in quantum physics.

Professor Robert Lanza claims the theory of biocentrism teaches that death as we know it is an illusion created by our consciousness.

‘We think life is just the activity of carbon and an admixture of molecules – we live a while and ...

The Royals Prince George baptism will inspire

Posted by:

The Archbishop of Canterbury has said he hopes the “extraordinary” baptism of Prince George will inspire others to seek the same ceremony.

The Most Rev Justin Welby will perform the christening at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace on Wednesday.

In a YouTube film released ahead of the service, the archbishop said he hoped people would not view baptism as only for a future king or “special people”.

“All babies are unbelievably special, not only royal babies,” he ...

Schools loose the right to teach exclusive religion

Posted by:

Faith schools could lose the right to teach their own belief and instead have to give more weight to other religions.

A report by the Religious Education Council for England and Wales says RE has become marginalised and should be added to the national curriculum.

But that would make it a legal requirement for all school to teach the same syllabus, regardless of their faiths.

The report, a three year review of religious teaching in schools, could form the basis of a new ...

Archbishop damns energy price hikes in the UK

Posted by:

The Archbishop of Canterbury has criticised energy companies for imposing huge price rises that will hammer struggling families.

Justin Welby said power giants had a ‘massive’ moral duty beyond squeezing customers for maximum profit, and challenged the firms to justify their huge increases in bills.

The Archbishop, himself a former oil executive, said he understood the anger over apparently ‘inexplicable’ rises and called on the companies ‘to behave with generosity and not merely to maximise opportunity’.

He hit out after British Gas announced ...
