School allows pupils as young as 11 to smoke

A school is being  investigated after it was revealed pupils as young as 11 have been allowed to  smoke in the playground.

Staff at the Elmete Central School in  Roundhay, Leeds, have given children between 11 and 16 permission to smoke their  cigarettes during break and lunchtimes on school grounds.

It is believed cigarettes were confiscated at  the beginning of the day but then handed back to pupils by staff later.

Donations of more than $110,000 (£67,000) have poured in from across the US for a Boston homeless man who returned a lost bag with $42,000 in it.

Glen James alerted police after he found the backpack containing cash and traveller’s cheques last weekend, and the bag’s owner was then tracked down.

A 14-year-old public schoolgirl hanged herself after developing bulimia – following playground taunts from bullies about her weight, an inquest heard today.The ‘beautiful’ blonde teenager had been bullied about her weight by peers at prestigious £15,000-a-year King’s College, in Taunton, Somerset, and developed an eating disorder.
